July Updates & Club Champs
Well where to start on an amazing month with athletes of all ages in action at home and abroad. Hopefully I don't miss anything out, but let's try and cover things in a chronological order.
Forth Valley League: Well done to Callum Hendry on setting a new league record for the U13B discus. Callum has now been selected for the Presidents Select match along with around another dozen young Vic's.
British Champs: A trio of club athletes traveled to Birmingham earlier in the month. Allan Smith returned with a Bronze medal in the High Jump. Although Allan already had a European Champs qualifying height under his belt he now faces an anxious wait to see if he will be selected. Grant Plenderleith qualified for the 400m final and finished 7th from an unfavorable lane one. Jade Nimmo was 6th in her 100m H heat with a seasons best
European U18 Champs: Kane Elliott following his recent exploits in setting a new Scottish 1500m record went into this competition as favourite. He had a shaky heat, but qualified as fastest loser. In the final he ran a very composed race and tried to dictate the early pace. Entering the final 200m he was in 4th or 5th place but when he spotted a gap he went for it and a fantastic sprint finish saw him claim an amazing Gold medal.
Scottish Relay Champs:. the quartet of Grant Plenderleith, Fergus Rule, Ben Grant and Harris Pentecost took the gold medal in the Senior 4 x 400m with a fine race. What was more amazing was we entered three teams in a senior event!
Masters National Champs: Took place at Grangemouth and saw our golden oldies produce some great performances with medals for Fiona Matheson, Grant Matheson, Brendan Lynch, Andy Ronald, Craig Johnston and the evergreen Hugh McGinlay.
Well done to all athletes and their coaches for producing such an amazing month!
Club Champs: Will be at Grangemouth Stadium on Sept 15th, again we will be hosting these along with our neighbours at Central AC. Entries will be online - keep on eye on social media for entries opening. The criteria for being considered for counting in the champs
